Our History

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Over 100 years ago the Heflebower family settled in the Arkansas Valley of Colorado. In 2013 the family opened their own family funeral and cremation service in the south Denver metro. Serving their friends and neighbors like family is the purpose behind their company. Heflebower Funeral & Cremation Services is a heart based, "family" business. Jim Moon

Jim Moon

Funeral Director

At the time of his father’s death in 1988, Jim's professional life was in corporate relocation and residential real estate sales, and the experience he had in making his father's arrangements told him there had to be a better way to do this. Finally, in 1995, Jim decided to find that better way and entered funeral service as an advance planner helping families plan their funerals in advance of need with a large funeral home in Orlando, Florida. Working side-by-side with the funeral directors, he saw many similarities in what they did as to what he did as a project manager in corporate relocation, and in 1996 Jim applied to and was accepted into the Funeral Service Program at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, Florida.

After graduating, he worked as an embalmer for five years in Orlando with the same funeral home. Then came 1999, and Jim and his family vacationed in Colorado and fell in love with it! Thirty days later he had a job, they moved and he began working solely as a funeral director.

He met Mike Heflebower when they worked together at a large Denver funeral home before Mike opened his own. After Jim retired from that funeral home, the two met up, and Mike invited Jim to join Heflebower Funeral Service. Jim's work in funeral service has been the most personally rewarding experience of his life, and he is very pleased to be affiliated with Heflebower Funeral Service.
