Sharon Sue Larson, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at home in Littleton, Colorado. She was born August 4,1952, in Alhambra, California, to Robert and Dorothy (Tolman) Larson. Sharon grew up playing with her menagerie of pets and basking on the beaches of Southern California. She graduated from Temple City High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in social work/gerontology from Whittier College, including studies abroad in Copenhagen and Cairo. She went on to earn dual masters degrees in Public Administration and Social Work from the University of Southern California. During her thirty-three years working as a gerontologist for the Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration on Aging in Denver, she served seven presidents, providing crucial services for senior citizens. She especially valued the rapport she developed with the elders of the Native American tribes in her region.
Sharon loved the outdoors, and no hike in Rocky Mountain National Park was complete until she had spotted wildlife. In the course of her life she mastered the flute, rode a camel in the Sahara, practiced yoga, performed belly dances, traveled throughout Europe, pored through novels and cookbooks in equal measure and decorated her planning calendar with whimsical little drawings. Above all, Sharon was known for her unflagging generosity. She volunteered her time to service organizations during every phase of her education and throughout her professional career and never hesitated to support family, friends and worthy causes. Her generosity often manifested in her desire to feed people. Of the several special dishes she was renowned for, the most popular was no doubt the baklava she shared each year around the holidays. In recent years she passed along her joy of baking and love of laughter to her four grandchildren. Always at the forefront of Sharon’s mind: what’s the next occasion when we can celebrate as a family?
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Terry; her sisters Carol and Doria; her children Cassandra and Tyler; and her grandchildren, Sloane, Elyse, Zoey and Ian.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hudson Gardens, 6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, CO, 80120. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider contributing to one of Sharon’s favorite charities: The Wild Animal Sanctuary, Volunteers of America, Alzheimer’s Association or Project Angel Heart. And to honor Sharon’s memory, please give your loved ones a hug every day.
