Robert "Bob" Elmore McCrary III
July 14, 1961 – October 13, 2026
Robert "Bob" Elmore McCrary III of Denver, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2026, at the age of 65. Bob was born on July 14, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois. He spent his foundational years in Three Oaks, Michigan, graduating from River Valley High School in 1979. A talented athlete, Bob played basketball in high school and was a proud member of the legendary 1979 River Valley Class C State Championship team. He fondly carried the memory of cutting the winning basketball net from the rim alongside Coach Schaffer~ a historic moment encapsulated in a special glass trophy case he joyfully returned to see during his 40th class reunion in 2019. He continued his education in Southern California, graduating from Occidental College in 1983. During his college years, he frequently hit the basketball court for pickup games with future president Barack "Barry" Obama.
Bob's charming personality and sharp wit made him a natural fit for show business. He built an impressive and vibrant professional career in the entertainment and media industry, working as a celebrity assistant and tour manager. He was a personal assistant and tour manager to notable stars including Ben Vereen, Bonnie Franklin, Victoria Rowell, Marla Gibbs, and Tony Danza. He worked on the sets of iconic TV sitcoms such as The Wonder Years, One Day at a Time, 227, and Who’s the Boss?, and worked on tours for major musical acts like Gloria Estefan.
Throughout the industry, Bob was known as a friend and confidant to actors and artists such as Doug Davidson, Sinbad, Toni Braxton, and many others. Among his many legendary adventures, he loved to share the story of being invited to sit at the table with "The Rat Pack" in Las Vegas, where he was endlessly roasted by Don Rickles.
In 2000, Bob retired from the celebrity world to focus on what mattered most to him: his family and getting his first Golden Retriever, Donovan. He settled down in Sherman Oaks, California, and worked for several years in management for Way Out West Inc. in Gardena. Throughout his life's journey, Bob traveled the world but truly called Three Oaks, MI, Sherman Oaks, CA, Manhattan Beach, CA, and Highlands Ranch, CO his homes. Outside of work, he remained a faithful Michigan Wolverines fan and a massive enthusiast for all sports.
In 2016, Bob survived a debilitating stroke. Over the next ten years, despite facing immense daily physical challenges, his faith in God remained unwavering. On October 13, the Good Lord unexpectedly prepared a place at the table for him, calling him home to rest.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Vivian McCrary; his older brother, Thomas McCrary, Sr.; his older sister, Barbara McCrary Morgan; and his infant son, Jayden Douglas McCrary. He leaves behind his beloved children: his son, Dylan McCrary, and his daughter, Shannon McCrary and their mother Linda McCrary. He is also survived by his special, trusted friend, Jan Wilusz, and her children; his two sisters, Dr. Nancy McCrary Jones and Karen McCrary Kerr (Roree); as well as a niece, several nephews, cousins, and a lifetime of friends across the country.
At the time of his passing, Bob was a resident of South Valley Post Acute Rehabilitation, where the staff and management provided him with remarkable love, care, and kindness. The family extends their deepest appreciation to all the caregivers, spiritual advisors, and close friends who showered Bob with unconditional love over the last decade.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Robert to, Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies
