Robert Garcia, age 72, passed away peacefully while enjoying a beautiful Fall day in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He left the bounds of Earth on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Middle Park Health medical facility in Granby, Colorado. Born on May 16, 1951 to Fortunato and Lupe Garcia in Denver, Colorado, he joined older sisters Theresa and Rebecca, going on to swoon many hearts, as attested to by his high school yearbooks, and then graduated Manual High School of Denver, where he was a member of the Concert Band, Junior Police, and Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and then traveled half the globe away to South Korea, where he met his wife, Yong Cha.  He and his wife thrust two children upon the world during his military travels: Connie and Alex.  Robert continued to serve in the U.S. Army, first as a cannon crewman, then gunner in the Air Defense Artillery, next as a Drill Sergeant, and ultimately First Sergeant.  He saw the world at the Korean Demilitarized Zone, kept watch at the Iron Curtain in Germany, spread humanitarian relief in Somalia, and helped hurricane victims in Florida move through disaster.  Robert left the U.S. Army after serving for 21 years, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and true leadership amongst all the soldiers with whom he had contact. He and his wife returned to the Colorado area, rejoining extended family, and traveling through parts of the country.

Robert was a quiet, stoic individual in his adult years.  He enjoyed a good book, with Tom Clancy among his all time favorites, and western novels.  He loved listening to good music, from Motown to Jazz to Country.  He loved to sit on the porch or deck on a beautiful Colorado day, listening to the sounds of nature, and always a book in hand.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Fortunato and Lupe; his sister, Rebecca; and his brother-in-law, Joe; and his niece, Elisa. He is survived by his wife, Yong Cha; his sister, Theresa; his brother, Refugio; his daughter, Connie; his son, Alex; his son-in-law Joshua; his granddaughter, Bethany; his grandson, Colter; his nieces Sherri and Diana; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.  His Celebration of Life Service is at Mountainview Christian Church, located at 40 E. Highlands Ranch Parkway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126 on Friday, October 27th from 11am - 1:30 pm.
