Robert "Bob" Gary Nelson

Robert “Bob” Gary Nelson, age 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Orchard Park Healthcare Center.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 12th, at Orchard Park Healthcare Center, 6005 S Holly Street, Centennial, CO 80121. A reception will follow at 7200 S Blackhawk Street, Englewood, CO 80112.
Bob was born April 25, 1946, in Wichita, KS to Raymond and Geraldine (Robertson) Nelson, the second oldest of six siblings. Bob was a 1964 graduate of Regis Jesuit High School in Denver. Bob went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University in 1969. Bob then worked in business forms sales for Reynolds & Reynolds in Illinois and Oregon. He traveled often, highlighted by scuba diving trips to the Bahamas in his early adult life. Bob eventually moved home to Boulder, CO to be near family and find his purpose in the late 1970s. Soon after moving to Boulder, Bob met and fell in love with Marlys Bondhus. Bob and Marlys married on January 22, 1982.
Bob and Marlys loved each other dearly. They lifted one another up through life’s challenges. Marlys gave birth to their first son Kristopher Lars Nelson in 1983 and their second son Michael Samuel Nelson in 1985. Kris and Mike were Bob’s greatest joy. Bob enjoyed taking his boys on many adventures into the mountains west of Boulder. He fostered a love for nature, the outdoors, and supported the boys’ love of sports over many years. Bob was a believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Bob and Marlys leaned on God throughout their lives. Bob enjoyed reading, spending time with his cats, and cheering on Colorado’s professional sports teams. In the past six years, Bob became a loving grandfather to three grandchildren and counting. He adored his grandkids. He enjoyed reading to them and celebrating their early milestones.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Geraldine Nelson, and his wife Marlys Nelson. He is survived by his two sons, Kristopher (Kari) Nelson, and Michael (Abbey) Nelson; three grandchildren, Alan “AJ” Nelson, Neely Nelson, and Samuel Nelson; Brothers, Lawrence Nelson, Mark Nelson, Tom Nelson, Sisters, Patti Sullivan, and Kim Garcia.
