Phyllis Lenora Melvin

March 10, 1933 — May 6, 2022

Phyllis Lenora Melvin, age 89, passed from this life into the arms of her Savior on May 6, 2022 at Life Care Center in Littleton, Colorado. She was born on March 10, 1933 in Turtle Creek, West Virginia to Phillip and Nora (Miller) Mitchell and was the youngest of 4 siblings. Phyllis graduated from Milton High School in Milton, WV in 1951. In her twenties, she moved with her parents to Laramie, Wyoming, where she pursued and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wyoming.

After graduating college, Phyllis taught 7th and 8th grade math in Wyoming, Colorado, and California. She later met William (Bill) Melvin and they were married on August 13th, 1967. They were married 53 years until his death in 2020. They raised their daughter Barbara in the Denver area and retired to their cabin at Lake Hattie in 1990.

Phyllis loved to entertain. She would host friends and family for gatherings and loved to play games. She was active in several churches throughout her life. During retirement she and Bill traveled to Texas and Arizona and enjoyed meeting up with other snowbirds, attending gospel and bluegrass jams and potlucks. She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and her greatest desire throughout her life was that her friends and family come to know him as Lord and Savior. She prayed faithfully for her family all of her life, and her daughter and three grandchildren brought her much joy.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Melvin, her parents Phillip and Nora, and her siblings Cebert, Violet, and Nellie. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Ron) Manske and 3 grandchildren Abigail, Nathaniel, and Annaliese of Littleton, Colorado. The family is planning a small graveside memorial later this summer, and her ashes will be placed alongside Bill’s at Greenhill Cemetery in Laramie, Wyoming thereafter. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a Christian charity of your choice, and share any warm and loving memories you have of Phyllis and Bill with Barbara in a card or message.
