Muriel Hanks Winegar

Muriel Hanks Winegar was born in Texas on October 20, 1931, to Devon and Ethel (Ward) Coates. The family moved to central California during the Dust Bowl for employment. She grew up in Tulare CA and married DR Hanks after graduating high school. They had 4 children. After his death in 1971, she married William "Bill" Winegar in 1978. They were married for 38 years.

Muriel and Bill spent many of their retirement years in Sun City AZ enjoying the warm weather and were avid golfers. They returned to Folsom CA to be near Bill's son Mike and daughter-in-law Marilyn as they grew older. She was active in her church and enjoyed trips out of state during the hot summer months. She enjoyed attending performances at The Music Circus in Sacramento and loved to cruise with Bill to many tropical locations. At Bill's death, she moved to Parker Colorado near her oldest daughter and lived there until her death on November 2, 2022. Much of the six years that she lived in Colorado was spent at Lincoln Meadows where she was known as the young-looking lady with the pink or gold sparkling shoes that matched her personality. The spirited side of her personality frequently appeared as she spoke up to the administrators about her concerns as well as those of her fellow residents. She enjoyed frequent phone calls from her children between their visits to Colorado.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Coates, her first husband DR Hanks, infant son Russell Hanks, her second husband Bill Winegar and stepson Scott Winegar.

Muriel is survived by her sister Pat (Larry) Campbell of Tennessee, her sons Doug (Mary)Hanks of Rancho Cucamonga CA and Phil (Pearl) Hanks of Garden Grove CA, daughters Sandi (Jim) Rupprecht of Littleton CO and Ginni Hanks and spouse Clarence Lindblad of Portland OR. She is also survived by her stepson Mike (Marilyn) Winegar of Folsom CA and her stepson Scott's family in Idaho.

She is survived by grandchildren Becki (Rich) Dierenfield, Highlands Ranch CO, Phil (Michele) Rupprecht Highlands Ranch CO, Justin (Yongdan) Winegar of Pasadena CA and Father Timothy (Joni) Winegar of Mather CA.

She was fortunate to have great grandchildren Mason, Katelyn and Caleb Dierenfield and Rock and Elle Rupprecht nearby in Colorado. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Gwyneth Li-Winegar with whom she shared a birthday and Nicholas, Marie and Nonna Winegar. Muriel is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Lynne (Mark) Hoffman, Larra Campbell and Patti Banks as well as her cousin Ann Kitz who she kept in contact with.

While she worked at various jobs, her favorite job was keeping people waiting in line at the DMV in Carmichael. Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior sustained her through life. Everyone who knew her for very long knows she is now dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.

A memorial service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon CA on January 6, 2023, at 3pm. She will be interred with her beloved husband Bill.
