Kenneth Ivan Wynkoop

Kenneth Ivan Wynkoop, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Clermont Park in Denver. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him throughout life and ultimately gave him peace.

He was born July 4, 1942, in Cheyenne Wyoming, to Doris and Ivan Wynkoop. In early childhood, he lived in Bisbee, Arizona and Los Angeles, California. In 1951, his family moved to the farm in Fruita, Colorado where he spent the rest of his childhood years. Ken graduated from Fruita High School and from Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, California. His early working career was spent as a motorcycle policeman in California and then he joined the police department in Grand Junction. He finished his career as the Chief Hearing Officer for the Colorado Dept. of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division. He married Marlene Wynkoop on June 3, 1989, where they met at a church event.

Having a true passion for Christ, Ken was always busy with family and friends. He rarely sat still and was perpetually involved in fixing cars, working with tools, and helping the community around him. He really enjoyed tinkering with the family’s 1939 Ford Coupe and was always up for the next enhancement. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Doris. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; his brother, Larry; his sons, Kent, Kevin, and Kyle; his stepsons, Terry and Randy Van Roekel; his grandchildren, Jacob, Briston, and Nyah Wynkoop, Rebecca McKenzie, Cole Hocking, Noelle Brandt, Kyle, Garrett and Taylor Van Roekel; and his great grandchildren, Elise and Madelyn Wynkoop, and Gwendolyn Brandt.

Being the committed Christian person he was, Ken asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Prison Fellowship. It is an entity who helps incarcerated people through a biblical life transformation and Marlene volunteered there in the past.
