Judy Meyer

Judith Anne Gladys Meyer “Judy”, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, in Centennial, Colorado. Judy was born October 1, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Harold and Esther (Grunde) Meyer. Judy was the second child of seven and grew up in Chicago and Des Plaines, Illinois. She trusted Christ as her savior at a young age and was a faithful believer all her life. Her favorite song was “Wonderful Grace of Jesus,” a theme she lived out. She loved to share Jesus with her friends and wished for all to know and trust Jesus as their Savior. She was a camper and leader in Awana and at Camp Awana for many years, where she was given the nickname “Mousie.” She is known also for her annual Christmas poems and many personalized poems for her friends over the years.

Judy was a 1956 graduate of Maine Township High School in Park Ridge, Illinois. Her undergraduate studies in Health and Physical Education were at Illinois State Normal University (graduated in 1960) and she later received her master’s degree from Elmhurst University. She joined the Peace Corps and worked in Venezuela before she began her teaching career in Barrington where she taught at Barrington Middle School. She lived in Fox River Grove, Illinois, for over 30 years. After she retired from teaching, she spent her retirement years traveling and helping people, bringing joy, laughter, and encouragement to everyone; Judy rarely sat still. She went on many travel adventures with her longtime friend Erna Bone. They also spent 40 summers in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, hosting many visitors at their humble cabin. Judy’s world travels included all 50 of the United States, Canada, Venezuela, England, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Japan, the Philippines, and the Cayman Islands.

Judy is survived by her brother Harold “Bud” (Connie) Meyer, her two sisters Dorothy “Dottie” Connor Bingham and Ruthie (Jim) Stevens Patton and her younger brother Dave (Cathy) Meyer, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Esther, her brothers Gerald “Jerry” Meyer and James “Jim” Meyer, her aunts and uncles, and her friend Erna Bone.

Judy supported many organizations and missionaries. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to AWANA, US Veterans at Tunnel to Towers Foundation or a gift to Bible translation and missionary work (to give to the reprinting of the Tagbanwa New Testament in the Philippines).
