Dr. H. Dalton Conner, age 92, passed peacefully in his sleep on June 13, 2025. He was a devoted family man and member of the Colorado Springs community, the city he loved and called home for most of his life.
Dr. Conner was an officer in the U.S. Army, a periodontist in private practice, and the co-founder of the Colorado Springs organization Peak Education. He was an extraordinarily patient-oriented provider, one of the earliest practitioners of periodontology in the state of Colorado, and a dedicated mentor and educator at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. After retiring from his practice, and motivated by a desire to give back to the city he loved, he co-founded Peak Education to advance the lives of Colorado Springs at-risk youth. Dalton created lasting connections with colleagues, patients, students, and virtually anyone he met, anywhere a path was crossed. The H. Dalton Conner Humanitarian Award, presented annually by the American Academy of Periodontology, is a testament to all that Dalton embodied: giving selflessly through extraordinary action and serving as an inspiration to others.
Dalton lived his life fully, with a philosophy of generosity, integrity, and gratitude. An outdoorsman, he loved to hike, camp, fish, canoe, raft, and ski in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain west, passions he shared with family and friends throughout his life. A self-taught musician and jazz lover, he played piano in the Doctors Jazz Band, hosted monthly jams in the Conner home, and served on the annual Colorado Springs Jazz Party committee.
Beloved by all, Dalton is survived by his children Darcie, Keith (Leslie), and Jenee (Paul), ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, and son Vince.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Broadmoor Community Church (315 Lake Avenue, Colorado Springs) on Sunday, September 14, at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Peak Education.
