Gene Williams Heywood beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died February 22, 2023. He lived in Sedalia, Colorado with his family and was 87 years old.
Gene is survived by his wife, Vada Jean Heywood, his children, Michael Heywood and Michelle Heywood-Brown, his grandchildren Samuel Brown, Daniel Brown, Rebekah Brown-Her and their spouses, his great-grandson, Matthias James Brown, and his sister, Rose-Marie Knight.
A lifetime lover of the outdoors and a patriot, Gene joined the National Guard while still a minor and then joined the Marine Corps. Although he was raring to fight for his country, Gene had to do so in a general’s office in Hawaii because his test scores were too high.
After Gene was honorably discharged from the military, he attended Arizona State University earning his degree in accounting. Even though he would have preferred working as a forest ranger, Gene loved his family and was determined to provided well for them.
While working as an accountant, Gene met his beautiful bride. They married in Pasadena, California and remained married for over 60 years. Gene was completely committed to his family and took his job of protecting them and providing for them very seriously. He was still taking care of his family all the way to the end of his life.
Gene died surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service for family will be hosted on March 3rd at 1:30PM, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Castle Rock, Colorado, where he will receive military honors. Gene will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
