David Young Kim, age 50, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Littleton Adventist Hospital in Colorado. He was born on May 31, 1973 in Seoul, South Korea to Woo Chi and Kyeung Soo (Lee) Kim. David’s family immigrated to the United States in 1976, where he grew up in Lakewood, Colorado.
David excelled in math and science and won many awards and competitions throughout his school years. He spent a lot of time reading encyclopedias and building Legos. After graduating from Lakewood High School, he attended the University of Colorado at Boulder to earn his Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. He earned a Professional Engineering License and had a successful career as a Senior Transportation Engineer developing a passion for mentoring young engineers.
David married Eun Hee (Ko) Kim on June 1, 2002 and they have three beautiful children: Reagan, Gabrielle and Evan. He enjoyed playing board games, building Legos, and eating ice cream with them. He also loved to spend time doing outside activities such as fishing, camping, and gardening. He was the children’s biggest soccer fan on the sidelines and always encouraged them to try their best no matter what. David had a passion for cars and watching football–especially cheering on the Broncos with Evan. He and Evan were huge Star Wars fans and enjoyed repeatedly watching the movies. David loved to recite the Lord’s prayer with his children before meals and going to bed.
David’s favorite fruit was watermelon and he spent an immaculate amount of time slicing pieces to perfectly fit into a container. He also liked to say his favorite color was brown because all houses are brown (and pretty much everything else). David always made us laugh. We will miss David dearly, but rejoice in that one day we get to see him in heaven.
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. -Psalm 23
David was preceded in death by his mom, Kyeung. He is survived by his wife, Eun Hee and three children, Reagan, Gabrielle and Evan; his dad, Woo; his older sister, Sue Graber.
