Carol Ann Bullis

Carol Ann Bullis entered Heaven on March 12, 2026. She was born on March 26, 1941, in Distant, Pennsylvania to Sol and Hannabelle Rearick who preceded her in death. She was the second of five children.

Carol graduated from Kenmore High School in Buffalo, New York in 1959. After high school, she spent one year in Tucson, Arizona and worked as a Secretary for a Controller at a bank. She wanted to earn a college education, so she enrolled in Anderson College (now University) in Anderson, IN. During college, she worked for the Executive Director of the fundraising arm of the Church of God World Service from 1961-1965, so she could support herself and pay for her education. Carol received her degree in Social Studies and a minor in Education in 1965.

She began her career as a history teacher at Pendleton Heights High School in Pendleton, IN from 1965-1970. Carol enjoyed teaching. In 1967 she married John Schieve and they welcomed two daughters in the early 1970’s. They were married for 15 years. She left her teaching position just before her first daughter was born. Carol also earned a Master of Arts in History from Ball State University in Muncie, IN in 1971. Carol sold Avon from 1977-1982. She enjoyed serving her customers; and was recognized as a President’s Club member for many years and earned a trip to New York City.

In December 1982 she married Ed Bullis. Carol and her daughters moved to Littleton, CO shortly after. Carol volunteered in her daughters’ schools and was active in their life. She helped her husband with clerical duties for his cleaning business.

In 1988 recognizing a need in the community, Carol founded the clothing bank at Cherry Hills Community Church. As the Director she recruited volunteers, helped organize clothing drives and distributed the clothing to various groups in the Denver Metro Area.

Carol decided to re-enter the paid work force when her youngest daughter was in high school in late 1989. Because of her strong work ethic, talent and personality, she gained employment quickly. She worked for a few years as an administrative assistant for various companies. In 1992 a position was available at Cherry Hills Community Church for a Missions Administrator. Carol applied and was offered the job. It was a position she loved and served faithfully for 15 years. At her retirement in 2007 the Missions Pastor said he was glad she said, “Yes” as he did not have a formal job description when she was hired. Carol shaped the position and loved serving her church and the missionaries they supported. She was able to go on two overseas missions’ trips to visit missionaries that Cherry Hills supported.

She helped her husband Ed start Missions Ministries in 1992, a ministry that provided housing to people living in the Colonias near Juarez, Mexico. Ed traveled frequently to Juarez working hands on in the ministry. Carol joined when she could and offered administrative and fundraising support from home in the early years. The ministry is still going strong and has expanded to provide more housing, medical services, and a trade center where the local people can gain trade experience to find employment.

After her retirement in 2007, Carol focused on caring for her husband. Ed passed away in 2020 after years of declining health.

In 2021 and 2022 Carol was able to go to Pennsylvania to see her siblings and extended family, trips she treasured, as she and Ed loved visiting there over the years to see her family.

Carol loved being a grandmother. She was actively involved in her grandchildren’s lives, attending their sporting events, concerts, and graduations, and delighted in spending time with them and giving thoughtful gifts. She was proud of each of them.

Known for her generosity and compassion, Carol supported many missionaries and causes she felt strongly about.

Carol was blessed with many friends throughout her life, who supported and cared for her. Her kindness was reflected in the number of cards she received through the years--so many that her daughters discovered boxes full of cards while sorting through her home.

In early 2024, Carol’s health declined and she required oxygen which significantly impacted her daily life. Although she never wanted to leave her home she moved to an assisted living home in September 2025 after a fall and an illness. She accepted this transition. Her daughters are deeply grateful for the exceptional care she received from the staff at Castle Rock Assisted Living in her final months.

Carol is survived by her two daughters, Susan Schlatter and Jill Gould (Greg), her stepchildren, Jeff Bullis and Stacey Dowling (Matt); her grandchildren Tommy and Robin Dowling, Joshua, Matthew and Ben Schlatter and Greg and Sally Gould. She is also survived by her older brother, Harry Rearick, her two sisters, Peg Heffleger (Ken) and Rue Megonnell (Dick) and several nieces and nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed, her younger brother Bob and numerous aunts and uncles.
