Betty (Betsy) S. Hart, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Skyridge Hospital in Lone Tree, CO. She was born August 11, 1940, in Oak Park, IL, to Ruth Elizabeth (Lee) Skoglund and William Albert Skoglund. Betty was preceded in death by her younger sister, Ruth Nan(Skoglund) Wroldson.

Betsy graduated from Batavia High School and continued her education at Grinnell College. On a train ride between Batavia and Grinnell, Betsy met Thomas F. Hart who asked, “Would you mind? We are looking for a fourth for bridge.” She later joked she did not play very well but was quite happy to oblige.

Betsy transferred to the University of Iowa where she received a BA in Education and her teaching certificate all the while remaining in contact with Thomas via letters. Betsy and Thomas (Bets and Tom to friends and family) were married in the Congregational Church in Batavia, IL in 1964.

Bets taught elementary school while Tom completed his military service in the U.S.Air Force and after that, law school. They moved to Geneva, IL and a few years later welcomed their children David Hart and Sarah (Hart) Goodheart.

Bets and Tom moved to Miami, FL and lived there for 20 years until Tom retired. They returned to IL and settled in Batavia. Tom passed away in 2001 and Bets remained in IL until moving to CO in 2014 to be near family.

Bets spent her remaining years enjoying family time with David, his wife Kristy (Maddern) Hart, and grandchildren Haden and Alexa. Bets also loved antiquing, singing with the 5280 Senior Chorales, and making annual pilgrimages back to Geneva, IL for Swedish Days where she would spend time with friends, back in her “hometown”.

Bets requested neither service nor celebration of life so I would simply ask that friends and family carry her memory in word and deed by expressing to others the love she shared.
