Barbara Lou Appleby, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at her home in Littleton, Colorado. She was born May 16, 1933 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Leo and Annie Ghormley. She graduated from The College of Wooster with a master’s degree in music and married Vernon Appleby in 1959. They raised three doting dotters (no not a typo), Linda, Cynthia, and Kelly and one son Robert (King Bob) in Littleton.
Barbara is survived by her four children, Linda (Steve) Taylor, Cynthia and Kelly Appleby, and Robert (Jennifer) Appleby; four awesome grandchildren, Emily, Scott, and Sam Appleby, and Michael Taylor; and one truly great, great-grandson Alexander Appleby; brother David (Mary Lee) Ghormley and sister Margaret Lee; and many nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents, Leo and Annie; brother Harold Ghormley and sister Martha Singh (Mansa).
When not caring for others, Barbara enjoyed spending time reading, doing crossword puzzles, working in her flower gardens, and playing various musical instruments. She also enjoyed creating and judging (interesting) floral arrangements as a member of The Garden Club of Denver, and playing golf (and drowning golf balls) as part of a women’s golf league. Barbara and Vernon hosted Sunday family dinners, traveled extensively, worked out religiously at the local YMCA, and went on long hikes during which she would try to identify wildflowers and birds.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025 at 10:30am, with family greeting guests at 10am, at Three Trees Chapel, 13416 West Arbor Place, Littleton, Colorado 80127. Graveside Service to follow at Littleton Cemetery, 6155 South Prince Street, Littleton, Colorado 80120.
