Shirley Jean McLaughlin

October 25, 1935 — February 16, 2021

Shirley J. McLaughlin passed away peacefully at her home in Highlands Ranch on the afternoon of February 16, 2021 with her husband at her side. Shirley was born in Denver, Colorado on October 25, 1935 to the late Robert B. and Patricia G. Stoner.

Shirley lived her entire life in the Denver, Colorado area. She attended West High School and later worked for The Denver Post for 25 years. She spent the last several years of her working life as a receptionist for Channel 4 in Denver. Guests and employees of Channel 4 were always welcomed by Shirley’s beautiful smile and delightful personality.

Shirley met the love of her life William (Bill) McLaughlin in 1970 while she worked a part-time second job as a hostess at a local restaurant. Shirley and Bill connected instantly and the rest is history. It must have been fate as they spent 50 years in a loving marriage.

Shirley was much loved by her friends, family and neighbors. She was often seen outside tending to her flowerpots full of beautiful flowers. Shirley was the picture of health and even though petite was certainly a strong and courageous energetic lady. She enjoyed being able to spend her retirement years as a homemaker and caring wife to Bill. Shirley also enjoyed the opportunity to lovingly care for her mother until she passed away in 2007.

For the last several months of her life Shirley was tenderly cared for at home by her loving husband Bill with much help from Denver Hospice and caring neighbors Mike and Rosi. Even to the last day of her life Shirley smiled when Bill kissed her forehead and expressed his love.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 50 years, William McLaughlin, her only child Lanis K. Saige, her granddaughter Chandra Rusk and great grandchildren Marly, Zoey and Damon.
