Matthew Obenchain

January 12, 1983 - December 17, 2021

Matthew Allen Obenchain, age 38, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021. Sweet Matty O entered our world with joy on January 12, 1983 in Denver, Colorado to his parents Beverly and Rock Obenchain. It was a glorious day! Matt was full of kindness, empathy, good humor and mischievousness. He was always the one who loved the act of helping people. He wanted people to peacefully unite, for the betterment of the world, without conflict. He astutely observed the world in his quiet way and had insightful words about what he saw and felt. When Matt visited other countries, he always found the differences in cultures interesting but felt comforted by the commonalities in all cultures. He loved children and animals and that childlike spirit kept him enjoying Legos, toys and games and his precious cats. Matt was preceded in death by his wife of seven years, Rebeka Hansen. He is survived by his parents, his brother Jonathan Obenchain, his sister Allison Obenchain, his nephew Gordon Xavier Obenchain and those lovely cats, Loki and Josie. Matt is missed immensely! If Matt was still with us, he would ask you to hug your family members and friends and tell them that you love them as often as possible and with every waking breath. Matt felt the world needs that tender, loving kindness. “May the force be with you” Matt would say, knowing that force which connects us all is love. The family will be holding a Celebration of Life at Cheesman Park Pavilion on May 1st, 2022 from 1:30-3:30pm where we will share our stories of Matt. We will grieve, celebrate his life, and continue on with the joy in our hearts that was the spirit of Matt Join us to share your stories and memories of Matt as well as lessons you may have learned from Matt. Should you be unable to attend, and would like something read at the celebration, email your sentiments to [email protected] Matt’s favorite color was orange, if you’re so inclined, wear a bit of orange. A YouTube live link will be active for those of you who cannot attend in person. www.YouTube.com/channel/UCox6D11i0073zxf8xr441aw/live Thank you for the beautiful trees that are being planted in memory of Matt.
