October 1, 1940 - January 7, 2021
Janean Ann Jarog (Ryman), aged 80, died on Thursday, January 7, 2021, from complications of Alzheimer’s in her Highlands Ranch home, surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren, and her beloved husband. Janean was born in Downey, California, on October 1, 1940. She loved art and caring for people. She was a good student and swimmer and competed as a synchronized swimmer on her city’s team. She was a candy striper and nursing student. She loved to travel with her family; and, in her early years, lived and gardened in Massachusetts, Illinois, and Canada. In her retirement, Janean settled in Colorado to be nearer to her children and grandchildren. She was a talented baker and cake decorator, creating fantastical designs out of sugar and food coloring. She was often urged to open her own cake shop! She was a gifted artist and an animal lover and was never far from her furry friends. Janean was a two-time breast cancer survivor and a strong warrior who went above and beyond to make sure everyone else was cared for and loved. There was nothing Janean enjoyed more than to sit in the sun, read a good book, plant flowers and vegetable gardens, and spend time with her family. Janean was quick to adopt her children’s friends and feed everyone in the neighborhood. She was known for telling each child or grandchild that he or she was her favorite. She would connect each child’s special ability or personality trait with one of her own. The magic in Janean’s words was that she meant it each time, even though we knew she said it to everyone. Such was her deep and true love of connection with those she loved. Janean is survived by her husband, Norman Theodore Jarog, her sister, Patricia Dinaso, her brother, J.R. Givens, her daughter, Isabella Giovenazzo, her daughter Deb Caulfield and son-in-law, Jon Caulfield, her daughter, Liz Smith and son-in-law, Adam Smith, her daughter Shoshana Nash and son-in-law, Scotty Nash, as well as twelve cherished grandchildren: Nicole, Lisa, Jordan, Layton, Alex, Meg, Micah, Bryn, Zoe, Simone, Ezra, and Asher, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her sister, JoEllen Dawson, and her sister, Carolyn Kusama. Janean will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue, https://www.rmfr-colorado.org/, or the Denver Cat Company / Cat Café Denver, https://www.denvercatco.com/.
