Elaine Cassidy

August 12, 1923 — January 18, 2020

Our hearts are heavy as we lost Elaine Cassidy, on Saturday January 18, 2020 at 1 am. She is now with Jesus, her husband George. sons David and John, her wonderful parents Wilfred and Maria MacLean Wise, Harry Wise “the best brother ever”, and her favorite Aunt Ruth MacLean Thompson.

Elaine is survived by her daughter Jayne Cassidy and fiancé Rich Hollander who spent the final days and hours at her bedside. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

She tripped over her oxygen tube the prior Saturday morning and required hip surgery to be out of unbearable pain. Surgery was successful, however, her 96 year-old body never recovered. She is out of all pain and at peace now.

Elaine often commented on what a great life she had had and how appreciative she was that she had always had someone to take care of her. Always kind and with a happy attitude and many a witty comment, she was a wonderful Mother and lady. She was loved.

Born and raised in Zanesville, Ohio, she loved her large, close family, school, dancing, swimming, tennis, ping-pong, knitting, bridge and going to movies. She loved her 2 years at Ohio Northern then the war interrupted. After she graduated from Bowling Green she became the Y Teen Director in Zanesville, fell in love with George and moved to Mansfield, Ohio to start a family. A housewife and Mother of 3, she was our Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Leader, and taught 3rd/4th grade Sunday School and always made my Dad his breakfast ! After 20 years in Mansfield, a job transfer took the family to New Jersey for a few years then, with kids safe in college, they were transferred to Japan where Elaine totally enjoyed her 3 years of experiences and friends. Transferred to Pittsburgh for ten years then retired to Venice, Florida to a house with a pool on a golf course and lots of bridge, golf and church friends and a wonderful PEO sisterhood.

During her 30 years in Venice, Elaine lost George after 49 years of marriage, then David, then John. Five years ago she relocated to Colorado to be with her daughter. She enjoyed the outdoor summer concerts and sitting in the front to watch the dads dancing with their little kids and being outdoors in general. Also taking walks, music at her assisted living, the front row at Cherry Hills Community Church and lunch on Sundays, taking rides and going on picnics and Wendy’s chocolate Frosties.

A memorial service will take place in Venice, Florida at Venice Presbyterian Church on May 2nd.
